Sequim Daily Photo celebrates 10 years of blogging on August 30

SDP is anchored in the small Washington State community of Sequim (pronounced “Skwim”). Rural in character, Sequim's location is bounded by the Olympic Mountains and Olympic National Park on one side and by the waters that form the northern U.S. border on the other. In between are forests, farms, rivers and streams. Sequim is a premier lavender-growing region.

SDP has been a group effort. Its first blogger, Norma, known as “Lavender Lady,” launched the blog in 2006 and maintained it for four years. In 2010 Shannon took over for a year.  SDP's current blogger, Kay, celebrated five years of blogging this month.

Kay credits Sequim for her blogging inspiration. "Everyone should have a few happy places," she says. "I’ve been lucky that Sequim is one of mine and luckier still that I live here. Sequim feeds my soul. I marvel at the vistas, the colors, and the light. I like finding things to share with SDP's followers.  My photos are my love letters to Sequim."

You'll need to visit your Library in September!

Big, small, majestic, cozy, traditional or modern libraries reflect our hometowns. Some are full of books from the opening of their era and some are -- dare we say it? -- bookless. Show us your favourite library or your town's newest library.

Susan Kelly provides this month’s theme.  Susan has been part of CDP since moving to Jinan, China, in 2010. By day she teaches English and has started graduate studies online through the University of Illinois' Graduate School of Library Science.

Susan has been blogging with CDP since 2011 at Jinan Daily Photo, which ran out of free space, so she continues recording the "City of Springs" at Jinan Daily Photo: the Sequel.  The attached photo is of the Jinan Public Library built in 2013.  This month’s theme brings together Susan’s love of photography, Jinan and libraries.

Let's Celebrate Eleven Years at St. Kilda

July 26, 2005.  Eleven years last week.  Michael Blamey posted three liquid photos of St. Kilda on a rainy winter evening in a beachside suburb of Melbourne, Australia.  Michael is a professional photographer in St. Kilda, who loves capturing people going about their daily lives.  He also shows us a wide variety of pier and beach scenes, in color and monochrome.  Congratulations on your longevity, Michael.  We appreciate your talent and enjoy seeing your city.

Six Years in South Tyrol

On the first day of June, Bolzano City Photo celebrated its sixth birthday.  Many of us start our day with a view of picturesque churches, craggy mountain peaks, steep farmland, fields of flowers and drool-worthy chalets in the environs of the city of Bolzano.  Is it Italian or German?  Bolzano-Cozen or South Tyrol or Alto Adige?  And why does every little town have two names?

Professional photographer Karl Demetz takes the time to inform us about his beautiful part of the Alps, squeezed in to the east of Switzerland, south of Austria and in the northernmost part of Italy.  Karl is generous with his comments on others' blogs and contributed the idea for "The Beauty of Simplicity" for this April's monthly theme.

“My City’s Skyline” is the August Theme

What does your city look like? City Daily Photo bloggers frequently show little vignettes of life in their respective cities, but rarely do we see the big picture!

Tamera is a full time wedding, portrait and boudoir photographer in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. Since leaving her job in 2002 to focus on her studio full time, she found that personal photography became more and more infrequent as her business consumed all of her inspiration and attention.

In an attempt to keep her creative spark alive in a happy maelstrom of brides and babies, Tamera joined the CDP community and began her blog, Colorado Springs Daily Photo, on November 17, 2008 (having been a big fan of Paris Daily Photo for some time by then). More than seven years later, she still thoroughly enjoys her daily search for interesting photography subjects in and around beautiful Colorado Springs. And she still thoroughly enjoys her photography business, reveling in the happy maelstrom of brides and babies!

Eight Years of Phoenix Daily Photo

In eleven days, Sharon Anck will celebrate the eighth anniversary of the start of her CDP blog, Phoenix Daily Photo.  On July 11, 2008, Sharon shared with us a "Welcome to Phoenix Arizona" post and began her eight year perfect attendance record with a photograph of the Arizona state capitol.  Along the way, she has added Sharon's Sojourns to feature her many travels and Sharon's Art Works to show her occasional ventures into the deeper regions of Photoshop.

We have become familiar with the Desert Botanical Garden through Sharon's photography and we have sweated along with her on Phoenix's blisteringly hot summer days. When she has discovered new restaurants we admire the food and the presentation, and when she hosts friends, we say "hello, again."  Thanks, Sharon, for being such a consistent contributor to City Daily Photo.

Seven is a Lucky Number in Stavanger, Norway

On June 20, 2009, Gunn White sat at her computer and posted the first photograph on her new blog, Stavanger Daily Photo.  She showed a stylish image of the coffee shop where she and a friend had enjoyed cups of coffee earlier in the day.  Ever since -- every single day, missing none -- Gunn has posted photos of her lovely city, introducing viewers worldwide to the beauty of her part of coastal Norway.

Over the years, Gunn has shown us cruise ships visiting Stavanger, local festivals, stores, restaurants, busy street scenes and quiet farmland, and the residents and visitors who make Stavanger a happy home for Gunn.  She has welcomed CDP bloggers visiting Norway and has met some on her own travels.  Back at her Stavanger home, Gunn has learned more about the world as she visits blogs of her CDP friends.  Thank you for being a valued member of the City Daily Photo community, Gunn.

Actually, it will probably be first on Facebook, or Twitter, or maybe you'll hear about it from the nice old guy next door. Whatever the case, if you have news to share, how about sharing it with us, so we can share it with everyone and actually make these pages useful?
